Generations of Print

SWEN has been in business since 1979, but our roots go back to 1917 as a family-owned newspaper (The Sylacauga News) that also provided printing for businesses and individuals alike. We apply the experience from five generations to exceed our customer’s expectations.

  • Charles Herd Greer

Charles was a newspaperman in Montgomery, Wedowee, Lafayette, Opelika and Birmingham, Alabama, and was managing editor of theBirmingham Age-Heraldin 1897. He started setting type at the age of eleven and was later inducted in the Newspaper Hall of Fame. He purchased the Sylacauga News in 1917, and the Greer family began printing in Sylacauga.

  • Roe Greer

Roe worked alongside his father Charles H. Greer until 1942 when he was appointed postmaster in Sylacauga.

  • Jeptha V Greer

Jeptha (Roe's brother) took over operation of the paper in the 1940's.

  • Charles (Chuck) Greer II

Chuck worked alongside his father Jeptha at the newspaper. In 1979, Chuck sold the newspaper to start a company devoted to printing for businesses and individuals, and SWEN was born.
